Tanzania president Samia Suluhu has congratulated President-elect William Ruto.

Through her social media pages, Suluhu expressed confidence that her government will work with William Ruto.

"I congratulate the people of Kenya on their peaceful general election and the subsequent announcement of Williams Ruto as President-elect," she said on Instagram.

"We look forward to continuing working together with our brothers and sisters in Kenya to strengthen our historically close ties. Tuko pamoja," she added.

"Tuko pamoja! Ninapenda kuwapongeza kwa dhati wananchi wa Kenya kwa kushiriki uchaguzi wao mkuu kwa amani na utulivu, ambapo matokeo yake ni Dkt William Ruto kutangazwa kuwa Rais mteule wa Kenya. Tanzania itaendeleza undugu na ushirikiano wa Kihistoria na Kenya uliodumu miaka na mikaka."

On Monday evening, IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati announced William Ruto as the fifth president elect.

Ruto garnered 7,176,141 votes representing 50.49 per cent of the total vote, while his rival, Raila Odinga getting 6,942,930, which was 48.85 per cent of the vote.
