KImilili MP Didmus Barasa

Kimilili member of parliament Didmus Barasa has retained his seat.

Barasa was defending his seat on a UDA party ticket. He garnered 26,861 votes.

The presiding officer announced him on Thursday after a heated competition between him and other competitors such as Brian Khaemba of DAP, and Suleiman Murunga who was an Independent ticket.

Brian Khaemba came in second with 9,497 votes.

However, Barasa has been on the run over allegations of shooting an aide to rival dead.

The incident involved Barasa and his rival Khaemba at Chebukwabi polling station where they were to witness the counting of votes.

Khaemba was pronounced dead on arrival at Kimilili sub-county hospital.

Bungoma head of DCI Joseph Ondoro said they were looking for Barasa for grilling over the incident.

“He has run away but we are looking for him. Let him surrender,” he said on Wednesday.

“We suspect he took a motorcycle towards Uganda but we will get him. He is yet to be arrested.”
