Police in Kisumu have launched investigations after suspected burglars broke into the home of Kisumu governor Anyang' Nyong'o on Tuesday night.

The incident happened at his rural home in Ratta village, Seme sub-county.

Nyanza regional police commander Karanja Muiruri said they are investigating the incident suggesting it could be an inside job.

The incident was reported by the farm manager.

He said assorted clothes and food items were stolen.

“A team of officers has visited the scene. We suspect it could be an inside job,” said the officer.

Police said among those to be questioned are officers who were on duty and staff at the compound that night.

The governor and his family were not at home when the incident happened.

Police said the family was at their other home in Milimani Estate,  Kisumu.

The governor's rural home is guarded by two police officers on a daily basis.
