• Last week, Wiper delegates urged Kalonzo to rejoin Azimio and renegotiate on behalf of the community what is at stake for them as a region.
• “I was given authority by Wiper delegates to contest for the Presidency. It isn’t only Wiper and Kamba community, but we need all communities for Kenya to move on as a nation,” Kalonzo said.
Former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka has announced his return to Raila Odinga's Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition.
Kalonzo made the announcement on Thursday after he met Wiper party officials at his command centre in Karen.
"I have come to the realisation that the future of our nation is on our shoulders. I have deferred my dreams to run in the August elections," he said.
"In my concentration, I have listened to everyone including the dumb and ignorant."
Kalonzo at the same time shared a message of gratitude to a section of Kenyans who stood with him when he declared his bid for the presidency.
"I stand here as a proud Kenyan. I acknowledge the goodwill I have received from those Kenyans who appended their signatures to allow me to run for the presidency," he said.
Kalonzo said after wide consultations, he has decided to accept the prime cabinet secretary's offer extended to him by the ODM leader.
"With humility, I hereby accept the nomination for the position of the chief minister when Azimio forms government. I would wish to congratulate Karua on her nomination as Azimio DP nominee," he said.
Kalonzo had last month announced his exit from the Azimio fold and declared he will be gunning for the presidency.
This was after Raila picked Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua as his running mate ahead of the wiper boss.
Kalonzo on Wednesday claimed that he was shortchanged in the coalition agreement which his Wiper party signed to form the Azimio coalition alongside other political parties.
“We had earlier gotten into a coalition that brought in several political parties that included President Uhuru’s Jubilee, Raila’s ODM, and Wiper. I was shortchanged."
Last week, Wiper delegates urged Kalonzo to rejoin Azimio and renegotiate on behalf of the community what is at stake for them as a region.
“I was given authority by Wiper delegates to contest for the Presidency. It isn’t only Wiper and Kamba community, but we need all communities for Kenya to move on as a nation,” Kalonzo said.
Kalonzo kept off the limelight since unveiling his running mate, sending everyone guessing about his next move.
