Kenyan singer Kelvin Kioko porpularly known as Bahati has been issued the Jubilee nomination ticket to centest for Mathare MP seat.
In a press conference held at Jubilee Party headquarters in Pangani, Bahati was confirmed as the party's flag bearer for the MP seat come August 2022.
The issuance of the ticket comes 2 weeks after Bahati decried a decision to recall a nomination certificate he had been issued by the party in May 2022.
Then, Bahati said that he had been asked to quit the race in favour of an ODM party candidate. The decision was reached due to an existing coalition pact between Jubilee Party and ODM under the Azimio la Umoja- One Kenya coalition pact.
The singer vowed not to keep quite about it, saying that the ODM candidate is being favoured yet he(Bahati) is more popular than him.
“Give the people of Mathare a chance to get the leader they have always wanted. These people of Mathare have suffered. I did not come to politics to get a job because I already had one. They deserve someone who understands them,” he said.
Bahati further made an appeal to Jubilee Party leader President Uhuru Kenyatta to come to his defence.
"Dear My President H.E Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta... Dear The 5th Raila Amollo Odinga... I Strongly Believe There's a space for the Youth in the Azimio Government... Please Intervene on this issue and Let the People of Mathare Get Justice," Bahati pleaded.
After shedding tears in a press conference, Bahati was mocked by members of the public who taught he is too soft for the murky political terrains.
However, he defended his actions, saying he was crying for the people of Mathare Constituency.
"I was not angry, I was just expressing the needs of my people. In parliament, I will be representing the people, a legislator, and an implementor. So I was representing the people. I took their pain and carried it to the press conference," Bahati said on the Wicked Edition.
