Jubilee Party Director of Elections Kanini Kega has explained why the outfit had to recall a nomination certificate that was issued to singer Bahati.
According to Kanini Kega, the party had to recall the certificate for the Mathare Parliamentary seat as a result of their agreement with ODM in the Azimio la Umoja coalition.
In an interview on Inooro TV, Kanini said that ODM questioned their decision to hand Bahati the certificate yet Mathare was known to be an ODM stronghold.
"ODM reached out to us asking why we decided to field a candidate in a constituency that was settled on as their stronghold. They stated they already have a candidate for Mathare (Tom Oluoch) who will be defending his seat, so we had to pull out of the race," he said.
Kanini Kega's explanation comes after the singer held a press conference on Monday to decry Jubilee Party's decision to recall his nomination.
In the presser, Bahati accused the ruling party of being unfair to him and admitted that Mathare had been zoned as an ODM area.
He challenged Jubilee to give him a chance as a youthful leader as he is the people's choice.
“Give the people of Mathare a chance to get the leader they have always wanted. These people of Mathare have suffered. I did not come to politics to get a job because I already had one. They deserve someone who understands them,” he said.
Bahati further made an appeal to Jubilee Party leader President Uhuru Kenyatta to come to his defence.
"Dear My President H.E Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta... Dear The 5th Raila Amollo Odinga... I Strongly Believe There's a space for the Youth in the Azimio Government... Please Intervene on this issue and Let the People of Mathare Get Justice," Bahati pleaded.
