The Requiem service for the late Ambassador Patrick 'Paddy' Ahenda took place at the Holy Family Basilica on April 13, 2022.

Paddy passed away on April 4, 2022, while receiving treatment at a hospital in Doha for heatstroke.

His son, Dr John Ahenda wrote a tear-jerking tribute.

"You kept telling me and reminding me of Exodus 20:12 - honour your father and mother and the days on this land will be long."

Adding, "You honoured your parents and you are forever going to be my role model. Why God chose this time to take you away from us I will never understand. I miss you dad, I truly miss you!"

Brian Ahenda also paid tribute to his late dad detailing how instrumental he was in his life.

"This man pushed me to the limit to produce my best side and walk bravely into my fears. It is beyond my fears that I found my growth and saw myself undergo exponential growth in myself. He is a part of me and I am fully a part of him."

He continued, "Even in his absence he has served me an opportunity to become him at the opportune time and he knows I am ready to step into his shoes having paved the way.

Dad I will not let you down even if I’m not ready for this light of day without you, it will not always be night. May your light shine on in this family and beyond."

The late Paddy's daughter, Petty also paid a moving tribute.

She said, "This is both bitter and sweet because as painful as this is, we have to celebrate a beautiful soul. You gave us the best time, best life, best love, and most of all best father!"

She added, "It's painful to know that I will never see daddy again physically or hear his voice. It hurts more that I won't see any more of his face, hear his voice, or see him laugh again.

I will most especially miss your flamboyance and brilliant mind. You were fearless with a hint of humour that made everyone feel at ease whenever they met you. May your jovial spirit live among us. Rest well daddy."
