Mama Ngina Kenyatta has cut off the dreadlocks of Mau Mau freedom fighter Field Marshal Muthoni wa Kirima.

The dreadlocks were widely known to be an identification mark of men and women who fought for the freedom of Kenyans under the Mau Mau movement.

Politician Agnes Kagure shared that Muthoni's hair was cut by the former first lady at her own wish.

"At her request, Field Marshal Muthoni's decades'-old dreadlocks were cut off by Mama Ngina, in the presence of the Kikuyu Council of Elders, as a celebration of their initial Mau Mau struggle and a symbolic acceptance of the new struggle to unite the country and ensure peace reigns regardless of the political situation," Kagure wrote in a social media post.

Adding;

"Witnessing the two iconic women recount their experiences while in detention offered insightful lessons on the sacrifices many men and women make to see an independent Kenya rise, stand, and continue to grow."

Field Marshal Muthoni was Kirima is among the celebrated Mau Mau fighters in Kenya who are still alive.

In a past interview with K24, Muthoni was Kirima had vowed not to shave her dreadlocks until the day Kenya will be truly free.
