Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has expressed disappointment after a Form-two student took to the streets to beg for school fees.

On Wednesday, 15-year-old Mellan Njeri Njuguna took to the streets of Nairobi with a placard, begging well-wishers to help her raise the school fees.

"Please help me with school fees," read the placard carried by Njeri, who was dressed in school uniform.

 The appeal by the student has attracted the attention of nominated Senator Millicent Omanga, who expressed disappointment on the student lacking fees.

In a social media post, Omanga wrote;

"This is very heartbreaking! As a mother, it has brought me down to my knees. I am left wondering is it just rhetoric talk when Ministry of Education says no student should be chased away from school because of school fees?

A fee balance of 29,177 can easily be sorted with NGAAF, CDF or even County bursary. I am looking for this girl.

Kindly share her parents contact if you have it or bring her to my office at KICC. I am going to pay for her school fees, buy her shoes and give general support."

The student had made a few rounds in major highways on the city on Wednesday, and by around 1.pm she had only collected Ksh 500 from a passersby.
