The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti has disowned summonses issued to four Members of Parliament in connection with a sex tape linked to Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi.

The tape that emerged in Decenber was dismissed by Gedi who branded the "video as fake". She accused her political rivals of seeking to malign her.

The four include Eldas MP Aden Keynan, Abdihakim Mohamed of Fafi Constituency, Isiolo Woman Representative Rehema Jaldesa and her Kirinyaga counterpart Wangui Ngirici.

Kinoti said the summonses were premature and uncalled for. He said there was no evidence so far to link the four to the said claims and therefore no need for them to show up as asked.

The legislators are accused of uttering defamatory statements that portrayed the MP in bad light following the circulation of the unverified video, which Ms. Gedi dismissed as fake.

A blogger Douglas Mbaya was last year arrested and arraigned in a Nairobi court for allegedly circulating the video.

Fafi MP Abdikarim Osman defended himself saying:

“I categorically state that I’ve not in any way maligned, defamed nor had the thought of doing any of that to my sister Hon Fatuma occurred to me. What interest would I even remotely have in defaming her?”

Adding: “I’m a politician. What political interest would I have in doing so? I don’t come from Wajir county. Hon Fatuma can’t influence voters in my constituency and neither can I influence hers. Incidentally, two of the three other MPs the DCI is seeking also don’t come from Wajir.”

Osman said he was in Djibouti on official duty when the tape surfaced. He said he sent the clip to Gedi after she asked for it but added that sharing the video could not make him culpable.

“Hadn’t she asked for what was then largely in the public domain? Hadn’t I only acceded to her request?”
