Kenyan born Sudanese basketballer Chudier Thowath Pal, 29, is currently being evaluated at a high-security mental facility in Australia after he was arrested over the murder of his girlfriend.

Stephanie Lee Robinson's body was found dead in a burning home in Doubleview by emergency services on Saturday morning, January 2, 2021.

Chudier appeared before Perth Magistrates Court on January 3, 2021.

According to numerous media reports, at his first court appearance on Sunday, he was seen rambling and prosecutors sought to have him sent to the Frankland Centre after displaying signs of psychosis by talking about the "galaxy inside his head".

He will be brought back to Perth Magistrates Court on Monday, January 11.

Detectives said that Stephanie's body was found just after 7 am on Saturday inside a burning Ravenscar Street flat that she mostly shared with Chudier, which sparked a city-wide manhunt for the basketballer.

Upon his arrest at 2.09 pm that same day, an investigating officer noted in a memo that Chudier was rambling about having "a neutron star for a father".

Back on November 2, Stephanie took to her Facebook and announced she was in a "complicated relationship" with one of her male friends replying “you deserve better”.

A resident claimed on social media to have seen the couple walking along Huntriss Road and Sackville Terrace the day before, "laughing happily" together before entering the flat.

An aunt and mother of the victim described her to 7NEWS as “gentle and non-violent and that she was a beautiful individual.”

She added that when she died the children were not in the house.
