Ivy Wangeci, a sixth-year medical student at Moi University was hacked to death yesterday by a man identified as Naftali Kinuthia.

He is said to have travelled all the way from Thika to Eldoret. He arrived at the institution and closely followed Ivy as she was walking back to the students' hostels along Nandi road when he attacked her.

Kinuthia struck her on her head using an axe. Wangeci fell on the ground and Kinuthia proceded to use the axe to cut her in the head before slitting her throat using a knife.

He tried to escape on a boda-boda but he was cornered and beaten up by the angry mob before police came to his rescue.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the two were dating and it's not clear why Kinuthia decided to kill her.
