Winnie Odinga and her parents (Raila and Ida Odinga), are currently attending Winnie Winnie Madikizela-Mandela's funeral service which is underway at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg's Soweto township, South Africa.

Winnie went ahead to narrate how she and the late were connected.

"Today as I sit here, gazing down at her casket I do however hold deeply the memory of the phone call I had with her many years ago while I was in high school. My mother was visiting her in SA and told her about me and she insisted that she must speak with me to pass a special message from 'Mama Winnie to her daughter Winnie'. Her words that day shaped me, they keep replaying today as I sit in this stadium. Although we never met Mama, my love and admiration for you trampled borders and generations and your impact on myself and many daughters of this world is as immeasurable as the universe.

May you finally rest peacefully mama."
