“Minutes later, I was surprised to see bodies and a motorcycle strewn along the road,” said the motorist who did not want to be named, adding that on a closer look, he saw the vehicle that had just cruised past him in an uncultivated land with its hazard lights on.

Villagers who thronged the scene said the driver of the vehicle, a local whom they only named as Mr. Bus was heard calling for a vehicle to come to their aid.

They said that a white Isuzu D-Max showed up within minutes and picked him, together with his passenger who appeared to have serious injuries, with the blood oozing from his face.

The villagers said vehicles ferrying contraband were notorious for knocking down people along the road and rarely are they brought to book as they are released immediately they arrive at the police.

“Like this vehicle here. We know it. Its driver is from this village and it has on several occasions been impounded but has always been released under circumstances we do not know,” said a villager, adding that the same driver is known to be part of a syndicate of cattle rustlers who have been giving the residents of Kodiere and Kochieng sub locations sleepless nights.

Siaya county police commander, Francis Kooli confirmed the accident, saying that the bodies of the three were removed to Siaya county referral hospital mortuary.

Kooli said that police were yet to nab the driver of the vehicle and appealed to the public to help his officers bring him to book.
