Twelve people died in road accident at Salgaa, on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway on Sunday morning.

The Nakuru-bound shuttle they were travelling in hit a cow then crashed into a trailer going in the opposite direction.

"All the 11 passengers and the driver of the shuttle died on the spot," Rongai OCPD Japheth Kioko said.

The trailer driver and a passenger suffered serious injuries and were taken to Nakuru Level Five Hospital.

A resident told The Star's Amos Kerich that several cows were crossing at the black spot as the shuttle was approaching.

"There are several cows in the area that cross the road day and night with no herder or a road sign," the resident added.

The deceased have been taken to the county's mortuary.
