Police in Kisumu is trying to unravel the mystery behind the murder of a Transparency International (TI) support staff.

The 45-year-old woman was on Tuesday found murdered at the TI offices at Riat area along the Kisumu-Kakamega Highway under unclear circumstances.

The deceased identified as Caren Okoth was staying in one of the rooms at the NGO’s offices where her body was found lying in a pool of blood.

She was stabbed twice on the chest by unknown criminals who also believed to have raped her before fleeing. The assailants also made away with three computers and assorted office items.

Confirming the incident, Kisumu East Sub County Police Commander Ezekiel Sing'oe said the murder occurred at around 2 am.

The assailants whose number has not been established, he said, broke into the offices and ransacked it before descending on the woman.

The police boss said the investigation has been launched to track down the criminals urging members of the police to volunteer information to ensure they are arrested and charged.

The incident has sent shockwaves amongst TI staff and the civil society members who have called for speedy investigations.
