Nyota Ndogo is slowly making the transition into being a songstress turned landlord.
In a few months her Ksh 10m investment in rentals in Kaloleni, Voi will start bearing fruit.
“I have built five of such houses to rent them out. I’m almost done. It has been a long gruelling but satisfying journey,” Nyota Ndogo said.
Nyota explained how she came about this much money to invest in the rentals.
“Many people think just because I’m married to a mzungu – Henning Nielsen, I would crave from a lavish life. That is far from it, my desire is to be financially stable. Most girls always crave for a lifestyle that is out there, from living in a house in Nyali, driving big cars… and all that, but that is not me.”
The Watu na Viatu star added, “If I wanted, I would have lived a fancy life in Nyali like most chics but for me that is not my goal. I asked my hubby to help boost my investments to make the rentals dream actualise. Now, here we are.”
If you want to rent one of the two-bedroom houses, Nyota will charge you 20,000. For a full year, Nyota will walk away with Ksh 1.2m from her investment.
“Hizi nyumba zingekua mombasa zingekua 25k to 30k. But voi zinaenda na 20k.”
So, how will she deal with difficult tenants?
“Kutakua na barua ambayo kila anaetaka nyumba anapewa akikubaliana nayo sawa akikataa awache tu. Nafkiri ile barua itakua inaongea.”
Nyota who is a homeowner said she was a very well behaved tenant when she used to rent.
“Kwa kweli sitaki kudanganya. Nilipokua naishi kwenye nyumba ya kupanga sikua na shida na mwenye nyumba maana nilikua najua Mimi kama mwanamziki sipati show kila siku kwa hivyo nilikua naweza kulipa nyumba muezi sita ama hata mwaka na wenye nyumba walinipenda sana.”
What advise would she give other creatives who want to come up with lucrative retirement plans, away from a life in the limelight?
“Msanii ni binadamu na binadamu kila mtu ameumbwa kivyake na akili yake inavyomtuma ndivyo anavyofanya. kitu najua ni hatutafanya kazi milele kuna time mwili utataka kupumzishwa na pale utakapokua unapumzika mwili unaitaji kutunzwa vizuri kwaivyo tunafaa kujijenga sasa baadae tule matunda.”
