A cook, mechanic and a watchman are leading in Belgut, Kahawa Wendani and Ainamoi constituencies.

In Belgut, Kericho county, cook Daniel Ng’etich was leading on Thursday afternoon in the race for Waldai ward representative.

Ng’etich, who has been a cook for seven years at Sosiot Girls’ Secondary School, has been described as a humble and fervent prayer warrior.

During his early years, he preached in local churches and was a famous Sunday school teacher in vocation Bible schools.

He is a member of Cheribo African Gospel Church.

In Kiambu’s Kahawa Wendani ward, mechanic Cyrus Omondi, popularly known as Gearbox, was also in the lead at that time.

The mechanic first dabbled in politics in 2006, when he chaired the Kahawa Youth Initiative.

While holding this position, his pet project was tackling insecurity.

In Kericho’s Ainamoi constituency, Eric Bett took an early lead in Kichebor ward.

He won over residents with his humility as he campaigned using a mkokoteni (handcart) while his opponents went around in convoys.

A matatu driver who clinched the Jubilee Party nomination ticket for Frere Town ward in Nyali constituency has come second as his opponent has remained at the top.

Samuel Mwambegu, popularly known as Adebayo, has at least 18 per cent.

Mwambegu has plied the Kisauni-Bamburi route for three years. He said he has the backing of the majority of the youths. The 27-year-old started as a conductor in 2010 and became a driver in 2015.
