The Sarakasi Trust has a big plan for you! On 18th April, they will be hosting a free-entry event at Jevanjee Gardens. It'll be all about celebrating circus and if you attend, you'll be part of the millions of enthusiasts honoring this art globally.

Unlike for ballet, opera, movies and theater, little is known about the history of circus. Only a few educated scholars know when this art started, or people who have been in it for a long time.

Philip Astley (1742-1814) is regarded as the father of modern circus. He was a former Sergeant-Major who chose to be a performer. When he was discharged from his position, he settled in London in 1768 where he would teach horse-riding in the morning and in the evening he would show off his horse riding skills.
