Cases of domestic violence is on the rise. It usually involves jealous lovers getting so pissed, they end up killing their loved ones.

Shock and disbelief engulfed the residents of Laare location in Igembe North constituency, Meru County after a middle aged man strangled his wife to death Tuesday morning following a domestic disagreement.

Area police boss, Peter Kimani said the husband, Mutuma M’Raibuta had accused his wife Kaimuri M’Imuti of infidelity.

The OCPD said for a long time the husband had been accusing the deceased who was a mother of three of seeing other men behind his back leading to several fights.

He said her lifeless body was discovered in their residential home in the suburbs of Laare market by neighbors who reported the matter to the area assistant chief Mwenda Muchiri before the police were alerted.

“We have established that she was brutally murdered by her husband following a domestic disagreement. The suspect has already been arrested and is being held at the Laare police station before being charged in court with murder once investigations are complete,” said the OCPD.

Muchiri said the couple has had regular domestic differences for a very long time leading to frequent fights even in public places.

He said the deceased used to go for casual labor regularly but her husband wrongly accused her of going to see other men instead.

He said the fights at times were so intense that the deceased was forced to go back to her maternal home or rent a house until the issue is resolved.

“They came to my office after every two months for reconciliation but despite our efforts the peace wouldn’t last beyond two months. Some times they behaved like mad people by even fighting in the market places,” said the assistant chief.

He said the deceased had been married twice before she was married to the suspect and left children behind in her previous marriages.

Muchiri said the deceased had once been arrested and jailed for stealing a dress from a neighbour.

He cautioned couples against unnecessarily monitoring each other but to instead take their responsibility of bringing up their children and embracing peace.
