Finally! The southern bypass has been opened by Nairobi city governor Dr. Evans Kidero after the long wait. Through his social media accounts, Kidero announced the official opening of the bypass which is meant to help in easing and decongesting Mombasa road and the City.

"This morning I opened the Southern by pass as a major step in decongesting the City. Heavy vehicles weighing more than 8 tons which have been clogging our city roads have been diverted to the bypass.

"The bringing forward of the opening of the by pass by over 6 months is an example of Nairobi as a listening County. As a result of the concerns raised we brought forward the upgrading of the Southern by pass to ease pressure on key roads.

"This is phase one of a plan drawn by the Nairobi City County and the Ministry of Transport to finally establish what Nairobi has been yearning for; for decades- A new intergrated transport system that will enable the City to grow and attract investment and jobs by expanding the road network, establishing a mass transit system, commuter rail network, a modern system of traffic management and a properly regulated matatu sector.
