Ever since Nick Mutuma-directed films, Disconnected and Sincerely Daisy, were aired on Netflix, netizens have been on his case accusing him of physical abuse.

The Kenyan actor Nick Mutuma has now broken his silence, 4 years after an incident where he was accused of battering a woman went viral on a Twitter thread. She has also responded.

In a statement posted to Twitter on Monday, Nick said,

“The allegations that came out against me in 2017 have since resurfaced and have taken a toll on me… they have affected my family and sadly continue to affect the people in my personal and professional life."

Adding,

“I do not want my silence to be interpreted as guilt or complacency, yet I do not want to speak and have my words misrepresented, I have been tried at the court of public opinion and ruled guilty by persons with malicious intentions,” he added.

Defending himself further Nick continued,

“They have been trying to discredit all my hard work, and they have done their best to see that my dreams never come true. I would like to categorically state that I am against any form of abuse against women and I have always been."

It now turns out that the Tweep who posted the thread resolved the matter back in 2017.

Rachel Mwangi who was the subject of the thread tweeted,

“In 2016, there was an incident between Nick Mutuma and I, that my partner Koome Gitobu posted on social media in November 2017, Mutuma reached out to us shortly after, and we resolved it amicably and privately in 2017.”

Rachel has spoken out after Nick released the statement saying,

"This is something I thought I had put behind me. This has been a very private and personal issue for my family and that I feel I must now speak on."

Adding,

This is something I thought I had put behind me. This has been a very private & personal issue for my family and I that I feel I must now speak up on. Nick Mutuma reached out to us shortly after, and we resolved it amicably and privately in 2017. I want to be very clear; I would never allow the voices of any victims to be silenced."

She concluded,

"I believe in accountability and I believe that any person that perpetrates any form of violence or assault must be held accountable. However, this is not such an incident. I thought I had put this behind me and moved on, until the issue recently resurfaced on social media."

She noted,

"I personally have no ill will against Nick Mutuma, I admire the progress he has made in his career and I wish him all the best in his future endeavours. As I said, this issue was resolved and I hate to see people using it to tear Nick down. I would also like to thank all the people who fight for victims. Thank you for wanting to fight for me and continue fighting for others."
