The body of the late legendary Congolese singer Jules Shungu Wembadio Pene Kikumba, popularly known as Papa Wemba, has just arrived in DRC Congo. The King of Congolese Rhumba music passed away last Sunday, moments after collapsing on stage in Abidjan, Ivory Coast where he was performing at a cultural event. He was 66-years-old.
A video showing how Papa Wemba slumped on stage has gone viral. His death came as a shock to many more so for his fans who cannot still believe that he is gone.
Earlier today, hundreds of mourners camped outside Kinshasa Airport waiting to receive the body of the fallen hero. A man who has been described as humble, passionate about music and a "king".
A short memorial service is underway at the airport and his body will be taken to the morgue thereafter. Papa Wemba's body will be buried on Tuesday after lying in state in a stadium in Kinshasa, on Monday. One of his children, has shared photos from his late father's memorial service, eulogizing him as the best Dad.
