Sportsmen have brought pride to our nation but being a home of talent, Kenya does not give sports the glory it deserves. In some countries, sportsmen are entitled to better medical cover rage and long term medical covers, unlike Kenya where sportsmen are neglected or abandoned after getting career threatening injuries while on national or club duty. Most of them are forced to foot their own bills hence hanging boots or retiring from national duties.

Over the past years, we have seen many sportsmen especially footballers and rugby players hang boots after being neglected by their own clubs. They earn peanuts hence it becomes a problem to pay medical bills. Innocent Mutiso joins the long list of sports personalities who are neglected by their boses who sang their praises on their hey days. Conjestina Achieng the promising boxer who once brought Kenya to the women boxing map is languishing in poverty with mental illness while those who collected gate charges duirng her bouts are busy running their businesses elsewhere or is it monkey  business?  Soccer stars George Waweru,  Solomon Nasio of Gor, Abdala Juma of AFC, Willis Obungu Sofapaka rugby stars Willy Ambaka, Humphrey Kayange, and others all have a story to tell on how they sports is ruthless in Kenya.

With the Kenyan premier league 2015 pre-season about to kick off, many players have been dropped from their clubs so as to pave way for new talents. Gor Mahia's star Mutiso was dropped without his knowledge and came to learn about it on social media. Mutiso who has been a key player at Gor Mahia for the last 2 years suffered an injury while playing for the club against Thika United in a top 8 match in Machakos.  AFC Leopards on the other hand get a pat on the back for keeping Antony Kimani the whole season with a knee injury that has seen him get operated on twice. All teams should emulate Ingwe’s example and having no sponsor is no excuse because safety comes before anything. Therefore medical cover is  a must for sports personalities. We wish Mutiso a quick recovery and hope that he gets a new club and continue with his promising career.
