21 Hillside Endarasha Academy Pupils to be Laid to Rest Next Week

• David Kinyua, Hillside Endarasha Academy director said he has been the go ahead to renovate the school.

Hillside Endarasha school where 21 died in a school dormitory fire.

The 21 students who died at Hillside Academy Endarasha will be buried next week. This was revealed by Nyeri County Commissioner Pius Murugu.

He started by delivering the condolences of the President Ruto and those of his DP Rigathi Gachagua.

"I want to deliver the condolences from President Ruto. He (Ruto) has promised to send the necessary assistance to manage the crisis."

He also revealed there will be counselling services to help parents and students to deal with trauma. They are also continuing with the search for students who are still missing.

The government will facilitate the burial of these kids. David Kinyua, Hillside Endarasha Academy director said he has been the go ahead to renovate the school.

He stated that the dorms will be moved from where they were to protect the kids from trauma. Kinyua said they had also been allowed to start repairs.

"We were permitted to start repairs for the dormitory on Saturday. We have called the parents, the reverend and education officers for prayers and talks to see how to resume normal functioning.” 

The director said they have a committee responsible for the children who lost their items in the fire tragedy.

He said they also got a lot of help from well-wishers who offered to help the children affected during the fire tragedy.

"The affected children will not buy anything. They will get all the essentials they need. The well-wishers are willing to support them," Kinyua said. 

Speaking to the media, Kinyua said he has also lost kids as he had been with the students for years.

'I have been affected by what happened. I request everyone to help us with prayers and ask God to help us heal soon. I have been saddened by this tragedy. I was with them for 13 years and I did not expect this at any point."
