Purity Kogoria, a survivor of the ill fated accident that claimed 12 people at Nithi has shared how she narrowly missed death.

"I requested my mum to go with them(ill fated car) so that she would open my business the next day.

I was left behind to take care of some errands' Purity told NTV

Purity lost her mother Evangeline Kogoria.

Boniface Mukaria also lost her sister Peninah Mukaria in the accident.

He says they did not know their sister was attending the parental blessing of one of their chama members.

The late Peninah left behind an 8-year-old-child.

'I last talked to her last week.

We did not know she was going to this event." Said Boniface.

The parental blessing event was held at the home of Damaris Kathira's parents courtesy of Vision Group chama.

'We were to go to Kangundo but whoever's house we were to go to perished in the accident." Said the event owner Damaris

Twelve people died in a head-on collision between a 10-seater van and a pickup truck at Nithi Bridge, Tharaka Nithi County, on Saturday night.

The crash occurred when the van, travelling to Nairobi, collided with a Meru-bound pickup, according to Tharaka Nithi Police Commander Zacheaus Ng'eno.

Ng'eno said the deceased included 10 adults and two children, all from the same van.

The 12 were among 20 people who had attended a friend's parental blessing event in Meru

Two occupants of the pick-up that collided with the van are receiving treatment after sustaining serious injuries.
