Survivor of fatal Nithii accident shares what happened before accident that claimed 12

Twelve people died in a head-on collision between a 10-seater van and a pickup truck at Nithi Bridge, Tharaka Nithi County, on Saturday night.

The crash occurred when the van, travelling to Nairobi, collided with a Meru-bound pickup, according to Tharaka Nithi Police Commander Zacheaus Ng'eno.

Ng'eno said the deceased included 10 adults and two children, all from the same van.

The 12 were among 20 people who had attended a friend's parental blessing event in Meru.

In an interview with Citizen TV Emily shared details of what happened before the accident.

"Our matatu was the first to veer off somehow but the driver was able to control it, but the matatu behind us, which had 10 people and two children, came to overtake us and ended up losing control; it went on the other lane of cars towards Meru and collided with a pickup," said Nzasu.

Ann Njeri and her 1-year-old daughter were among 12 people who died in the accident.
