A nanny on Monday admitted to stealing a gold ring worth Sh683,700 from her employer in Westlands.
An emotional Violet Ndukwe pleaded with the court to forgive her saying she stole the ring to help her ailing father.
The complainant in the case is a nurse who resides in Australia.
Norah Michelle, according to the prosecution, had come to Kenya to spend time with her family that resides in Westalnds, Nairobi.
She came with her two children. She needed a house help to help her out with the children and that's how the services of Violet were procured.
The court heard that she went about her duties until August 1, 2024, when she sought for permission to visit her children in Kawangware.
At this point, Violet had already stolen the ring which Norah had kept in her clutch bag.
"She came back after a few days and the complainant noticed that the bag which had the gold ring was missing," the prosecution told the court.
Violet, who confessed to taking the ring, said she later sold it to one Francis Mwima for Sh4000.
The charge sheet which was presented in court indicates that on diverse dates between August 3 and 8, at Runda Acacia Grove, house number 19, within Westalnds subcounty, Violet Ndukwe and Francis Mwima stole a gold ring worth $5,300 (Sh683,700), property of one Norah Michelle Were.
Ndukwe faced another charge of handling stolen property.
It was alleged that once she stole the ring, she "dishonestly retained and disposed it knowing it was stolen property".
Mwima also faced another count of handling stolen property.
Even after Ndukwe admitted to the charges, Mwima denied saying he is not aware of the transactions being mentioned in court.
Milimani Magistrate, Rose Ndumbi, subsequently made an order for pre-sentencing report with respect to Violet.
She at the same time granted Mwima a cash bail of Sh500,000.
The matter will be mentioned on September 5, 2024.
