The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has acknowledged the ongoing discussions regarding the development of a Road Tolling Policy.

The Authority has assured the public that this policy will be crafted with extensive public participation, ensuring that all stakeholders have the opportunity to voice their opinions.

Once finalized, the Road Tolling Policy will outline which roads will be subject to tolls. Among the key roads under consideration are the Nairobi Southern Bypass, Nairobi-Nakuru-Mau Summit Highway, Thika Superhighway, Kenol-Sagana-Marua Road, Mombasa Southern Bypass, and the Dongo Kundu Bypass, among others.

KeNHA has reiterated its commitment to maintaining transparency and inclusivity throughout the policy development process.

The Authority has pledged to keep the public informed and involved at every stage of the process, ensuring that the final policy reflects the interests and concerns of all road users.

Read the comments from Kenyans who commented on Kenha's X post below:

Edwin Chepkindet @janveizer_ Kenyans do not have money to pay those toll fees. Already the road maintenance levy is being deducted, please spare some coins left in the pockets of Kenyans.

Kanairaw @kanairaw1 Hii mkijaribu we will occupy even your bedrooms. Shenzi sana!

Eric Njiru @EricNjiiru There’s only one language the government understands.

Xp2001 @Xp20012 Put the tolling at your own risk. Coz this is just another eating stream for you.

DEBATE CENTRAL @IG_Magazine The point here is, THERE IS NO NEED FOR DISCUSSION on a project solely BUILT BY TAXPAYERS' MONEY. Just because you found a “bottleneck” to increase tax doesn’t mean you dive head first. We cannot be taxed by the Chinese and then by the government too. HAPANA CHEZA NA WATU.

254Roy🇰🇪 @254_roy38068 Clean fuel levy if you will put some roads to be toll fee.

Web3Cryptos @Web3Cryptos_ You will go home, scrapped from existence, or worse. You must reap where you sow. KIBAKI left a vibrant infrastructure, the regime has nothing to show but wants to reap where they did not sow. It cannot be accepted. Only projects done via PPP can make sense, also we have seen how...

丂廾闩尺长 𝕏 @DjShark9527 Tutachoma hizo toll station zenu zote, seems there’s only one language the government understands na ni violence!!

Omař @_natches This is the voice of Kenyans, "All roads should be free."

Motorist Association @motoristsoffice To justify a toll road, a private company should identify a location where there is a genuine need for a road but none currently exists, and then use its funds to construct it. The term 'established' should not imply force.

J.Otao 🇰🇪Ⓜ️ @Joshuainitials Why collect fuel levy and still go ahead to toll roads? You will give away with one. There are many other ways of collecting levy. Stop corruption and utilize the resources efficiently without giving crooked contractors work, who do shoddy jobs.

Macharia Barii @bariimacharia @KeNHAKenya, Thika road and the other bypasses were built by Kibaki using our taxes and some PUBLIC debt. You only toll roads that have been PRIVATELY built. So, who is preparing to eat toll from roads that we have already paid in full using our taxes?

Twitshrip @Twitshrip It's either toll or fuel levy. It can't be both.

Barrack Otieno @okushjanam You are deducting Kes 25 per litre of fuel and still want to put toll stations on roads funded by the road development levy. This will be double taxation; stop the greed for cash, people are suffering out here.

Mark Kyalo @markkyalo12 We shall only accept tolling if H.E Mwai Kibaki is the one doing it. You guys cannot construct with our resources and then charge us for using it. Any other road tolling to pay for odious debt is hereby denied.

I'm Rabet @KaimatiKuu Doesn't make sense when we already pay for a road maintenance levy and a fuel levy.

Peter Murithi @PetesMurithi Why would we pay to use roads we built ourselves?

#OurHealthcare #OurBloodBank @Cyoich Unless you are scrapping all the levies we pay on fuel, hii mambo mtakoma. Tuko na nyinyi. @gabrieloguda tell all the people in that office, this is where it's at. Hapa hamtoboi.

AmSam @SNMwariri If so, then you should drop the so-called 630B loan on roads and 800B on @sgr_operation @KenyaRailways_ coz we don't use them for free.

Black Lion Africa 🇰🇪 @KibisuElvies You formulate whatever you want; we will use the roads free whether you like it or not!! KeNHA is one of the useless parastatals wasting taxes doing nothing other than issuing road tenders. We can't pay fuel levy and then pay to use the roads. You guys are sleepwalking.

Amos Adie @eraadie Dead on arrival, these roads were built with loans which Kenyans are painfully paying for, and at the same time, you're collecting road maintenance levy. This is the most insensitive proposal. #Rejectroadtoll2024
