President William Ruto has nominated Dorcas Oduor for the position of Attorney General. Oduor currently serves as the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions.
This nomination comes shortly after Ruto reassigned Rebecca Miano to the Tourism ministry. Miano had initially been chosen to be Attorney General after Ruto dissolved his entire Cabinet.
If successful in the vetting process, Oduor will take over from Justin Muturi, who has been nominated to serve as the Public Service Cabinet Secretary.
Oduor is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and holds a Master of Arts in International Conflict Management from the University of Nairobi (UoN), a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from UoN, and a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
Once confirmed by the National Assembly Committee on Appointments and appointed by the President, Oduor will become the principal legal adviser to the Government. She will also represent the national government in court or in any other legal proceedings to which the national government is a party, other than criminal proceedings.
Additionally, she will perform any other functions conferred on the office by an Act of Parliament or by the President. Oduor will be part of President Ruto's newly reconstituted Cabinet, which includes at least four members from the Opposition party, ODM.
Oduor will also be a member of the influential National Security Council.
