President William Ruto has faced criticism for nominating six Cabinet secretaries from his first administration for reappointment.

During a special reunion episode of the iconic Crossfire Podcast, hosted by Radio Africa Group's founding Chief Executive Officer Patrick Quarcoo, guests expressed their disappointment with the nominations.

The panel included former Cabinet minister Mukhisa Kituyi, lawyer Judy Thongori, Mathare Social Justice Centre activist and scholar Wanjira Wanjiru, and politician Tony Gachoka.

Wanjiru, 23, remarked that the President seems unwilling to heed Kenyans' calls for a nation free from corruption and with improved systems.

“We are not short of leaders. Must we have Alice Wahome and Adan Duale in that Cabinet?” she questioned.

Kituyi pointed out that the frustration among Kenyans is not just with specific individuals but with the entire government.

“You cannot address the problem by merely changing a few names. Forming the cabinet should have been the final step in addressing the concerns of Kenyans,” he said.

Thongori noted that the President had an opportunity to make a difference but appears not to have taken full advantage of it. “He was given a chance, but then, he gives us a team that people believe he did not take time to think about,” she added.
