Man captured on CCTV being shot during Tuesday's protests speaks

• CCTV footage of man shot and lying down in Nairobi CBD speaks of terrifying moment

Kevin Luvega, a young man seen in CCTV footage during violent protests in Nairobi's CBD on Tuesday, July 16, recently spoke to NTV about his harrowing experience.

He revealed that he was shot in the eye and recalled the terrifying moment when he was presumed dead. The 27-year-old is now recovering at home with a wound on his face.

Kevin's ordeal began as he tried to escape from anti-riot police along Moi Avenue. Footage shows him running behind two individuals who managed to get away.

Unfortunately, Kevin was hit and fell to the ground, apparently from a gunshot. He struggled, fell, and lay still on the pavement.

After some time, people approached him. While some curiously looked at him and walked away, others joined hands to carry him. Kevin had a serious injury to his left eye.

"There was a policeman I didn't see clearly. He tear-gassed me, and I fell. One side of my face was injured. I was confused, but people came and carried me," he recounted.

Kevin was then rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital.

"We waited there for a long time because it was crowded, and it was hard to get immediate attention. A woman was helping us, but the senior staff were scarce, and blood was flowing badly," Kevin said.

He was eventually attended to but had to rest on a bed, feeling cold and detached. His wife claims that Kevin wasn't given any medication at the hospital.
