Denzel Onyango Omondi, the JKUAT student who was found dead in a quarry after going missing during the anti-government protests, will be buried next week.

A funeral announcement places his burial date as Monday, July 22, in Homa Bay County, Rachuonyo North Sub County, Kanjira location, Kochola sub-location, Nyamgango village.

Denzel was last seen alive in a video recording near the Parliament precincts, where protestors had invaded the National Assembly on June 25.

His body was later discovered at a quarry in Gachororo, Juja, Kiambu County.

His brother, Joshua Juma, mentioned that he spoke with Denzel a day before the protests. Juma said the 24-year-old, who was a quantity survey student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, did not indicate that he would be part of the 'Occupy Parliament' demonstrations.

“It was just a call like any other, between an older and a younger brother,” he said, adding that Denzel's phone went off during the day of the protests.

Family members in Nairobi immediately began searching for him, visiting various police stations, hospitals, and morgues with no success.

“My uncle went to Juja Police Station and reported him missing. Like it happened to everyone during these protests, the search was in morgues and hospitals, and no police station indicated that he had been arrested,” Juma explained.

The family eventually saw a picture circulating on social media showing Denzel's body alongside his identity documents at a quarry in Juja.

“We were shocked because I had shared the poster looking for his whereabouts. We were not prepared to get the feedback from social media that he had died. The family is still deeply traumatized,” Juma said.
