Bodeis found dumped in Kware area near Mukuru Kwa Njenga

The Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya) has strongly condemned the brutal killing of six women whose mutilated bodies were found in Kware, Mukuru kwa Njenga on Friday.

In a statement, FIDA-Kenya highlighted that this tragic incident underscores the ongoing sexual and gender-based violence and brutality faced by women in Kenya.

Christine Kungu, the chairperson of FIDA-Kenya, emphasized that many such cases result in femicide. She stated that the discovery of these six bodies is indicative of a troubling trend of increasing violence against women in the country.

“This discovery is not an isolated incident but part of a disturbing pattern of violence against women that has been escalating in our country. This incident is unacceptable. Women and girls in Kenya must be assured and guaranteed their protection and safety,” Kungu declared.

While acknowledging the National Police Service's commitment to investigating the case, Kungu urged for swift arrests and prosecution of those responsible.

FIDA-Kenya extended condolences to the victims' families and stressed that the government must ensure that these heinous acts do not go unpunished. The organization also pledged to provide legal and psychosocial support to the affected families.

“We will work tirelessly to gather all relevant information and provide any needed support to the authorities and the affected families. We remain committed to fighting for justice for all women. We will continue to monitor this matter keenly and update the public accordingly,” Kungu added.

The six bodies were discovered at an abandoned quarry, now filled with water and used as a dumpsite. The victims were wrapped in nylon papers and secured with nylon ropes.

The Director of Criminal Investigations, Mohamed Amin, reported that the bodies were severely mutilated and in various stages of decomposition. Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) personnel from Embakasi promptly arrived at the scene, retrieved the bodies, and documented the area.

The bodies have been transported to the Nairobi Funeral Home (City Mortuary) to await postmortem examinations.
