A group of men have emerged claiming to be the leaders of Gen Z, announcing the formation of a new political party to initiate talks with the government aimed at ending the ongoing protests.

In a clip on KBC TV, the men addressed Kenyans, welcoming President Ruto's decision to withdraw the Finance Bill 2024 and return it to Parliament.

They emphasised the need for dialogue to address the frustrations of the youth.

"We want to request the young people of this country to give dialogue a chance. We have seen the President has toned down and has thrown out the Bill and formally written to the National Assembly.

So I want to request the young people just to give dialogue a chance. Another thing I would also request the President to look into compensation for people whose businesses were lost," pleaded one man wearing spectacles.

Another speaker advised leaders on how to involve young people in the process:

"As young people, we don't want this conversation only to happen at the national level. We have devolved units, and therefore we are calling on all county governments to also be steadfast in incorporating young people in this conversation of leadership."

However, Kenyans have criticized the group, pointing out that there is no appointed leader of the protests.

Below are some comments:

  • @ZjayTimoh: "The internet does not forget."
  • @victor31052: "They have jokes."
  • @Delorenzo254: "They don't even know what Gen Z is, just old men parading. Sometimes they should remember the hustler narrative, nothing would have been suspicious."
  • @Library_mindset: "We need to deal with these frauds."
  • @antokinyua: "It's okay. Let them negotiate with themselves."
