Granny's moving cry for missing grandson after shootings

• "Ruto, give me my child. Ruto, I am telling you, give me my child," she cried.

The night of terror in Githurai following the Tuesday, June 25 protests has left many questioning the events of that fateful night.

Alleged videos of gunfire in the densely populated area spread widely as residents alleged mass shootings.

A grandmother claims her grandson has been missing since the incident. Reports indicate that police allegedly shot and killed an unspecified number of residents.

"I don’t know where he is. He has been missing since that night in Githurai," she said, clutching her chest.

Speaking in Kikuyu, she added, "What are you telling me now, you people? Where is my grandson?" Her grandson, 21-year-old Ishmael Kamau, has not been seen since.

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) is calling for an independent investigation into the alleged 'massacre' of residents.

LSK President Faith Odhiambo, addressing the press in Nairobi on Wednesday, demanded answers. "I dare ask, is Githurai a protected area? Is it an area where members of the public should not stay? Why was there a massacre where people were living peacefully? We demand answers," she said.

The distraught grandmother accused authorities of violating human rights and questioned the deployment of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to manage the alleged unrest.

"Ruto, give me my child. Ruto, I am telling you, give me my child," she cried. "I will come to State House on foot, and you will give me that boy. You can shoot me twenty times. I might not die. I am trembling for my grandchild. Yours are eating well, while ours are suffering."

"Let me tell the truth, imagine giving such orders. Are you chosen, or did we choose you? Shame on you. I want my grandchild. I need that boy," she pleaded.
