Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna on Tuesday intervened to prevent police from firing at protesters during a heated anti-Finance Bill demonstration.

The incident occurred in Nairobi where thousands of demonstrators had gathered to protest against the Finance Bill 2024.

As tensions escalated and protesters clashed with police, officers were seen dispersing the crowd in Parliament buildings.

Sifuna stepped forward and positioned himself between the police and the protesters, urging restraint and calling for a peaceful resolution.

The protesters also entered the Parliament Buildings.

The protesters also burned a police vehicle.

Moments earlier, MPs had voted to approve the Finance Bill, 2024 that they argued imposes a wave of taxes.

The MPs voted 195 to 106 to pass the Finance Bill, 2024, paving the way for President William Ruto to assent to it into law.

Police were deployed around Parliament to guard and block protesters from entering the premises.

The police were then overwhelmed by protesters as they stormed Parliament.

The anti-Finance Bill protest took an ugly turn after several protesters were reportedly shot outside Parliament.

At least three protesters were reportedly shot outside Parliament Buildings as a mob battled police.
