Hundreds of youths marched through the streets of Eldoret on Thursday morning, rallying against the Finance Bill 2024.

They carried placards voicing opposition to the Bill and calling on MPs to reject it.

Anti-riot police were strategically deployed at multiple meeting points where the youth gathered before the protests.

Using social media, they coordinated more than three assembly locations in town for the demonstrations.

By 8 am, armed officers in two Land Rovers were stationed at Zion Mall, the primary meeting spot, with additional personnel deployed along Uganda Road and at the Kisumu Road junction.

"We will conduct peaceful marches to unite with fellow Kenyans in opposing this oppressive Finance Bill," declared youth leader Jared Kiptoo.

Security measures have been heightened throughout other parts of Eldoret.

Uasin Gishu police commander Benjamin Mwanthi affirmed that standard security protocols were in place across the region.

Local human rights defenders also issued notices of their intent to participate in the protests.
