Donald Trump's license to carry a firearm is expected to be revoked by the New York City Police Department following his criminal conviction, according to reports on Wednesday evening.

The former president once boasted about his popularity with voters, saying, "I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn't lose any voters."

He made this claim in January 2016 during the Iowa caucus campaign, as reported by The Guardian.

Trump's concealed carry permit was suspended last April after he was indicted for falsifying documents to conceal payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels, according to CNN.

Now, the NYPD is preparing to completely revoke Trump's license, CNN first reported, followed by NBC, citing a police spokesperson.

Last week, Trump was found guilty on 34 counts related to a hush-money scheme to influence the 2016 election, including falsifying business records.

Prosecutors alleged that Trump falsely recorded payments made to Michael Cohen, his former lawyer and fixer, to cover fees paid to adult film actress Stormy Daniels, amounting to $130,000 in exchange for her silence about an alleged affair with Trump.

Trump, who is a candidate for the Republican nomination in the 2024 election, will retain some privileges not afforded to all U.S. felons.

He appears to still be able to vote in the November race because New York — the state where the hush money case took place — is one of 23 states where felons can vote as long as they are not incarcerated.

Trump is scheduled to be sentenced on July 11, but experts say it is unlikely that he will serve prison time. Trump has denounced the historic conviction as a "stolen case."
