King Charles came face to face with his own face on the new banknotes which will go into circulation in June.

This tradition follows the monarch's receipt of the initial issues of new banknotes.

While the current banknotes bearing Queen Elizabeth II's image will remain in use, the new notes will be introduced alongside them.

Due to his cancer diagnosis, King Charles has scaled back on large public appearances but continues with private engagements, such as this meeting, during which he was presented with the banknotes by Andrew Bailey, the Governor of the Bank of England.

Mr. Bailey informed the King that this marked the first time the Bank of England had changed the monarch depicted on the banknotes, as Queen Elizabeth II had been the first monarch to feature on all Bank of England notes.

Receiving a set of notes with serial numbers starting from 00001, the King praised the design as "very elegant."

These banknotes signify one of the final steps in the transition to King Charles's reign, following the circulation of new stamps and coins.

The Bank of England plans a phased introduction of the King Charles banknotes, with Queen Elizabeth notes used until they wear out or sustain damage.

Although the new notes debut on June 5th, it may take several months before they become widespread in circulation, particularly with the increasing trend towards cashless payments.

The initial printing of new banknotes occurred last year, allowing time for cash-accepting machines to be updated to recognize the new designs.
