Early on Saturday morning, a tragic road accident claimed the lives of at least two individuals, leaving 10 others seriously injured.

The incident occurred when a bus they were traveling in collided with a fuel tanker in the Muguga area in Kikuyu, Kiambu County.

According to Kikuyu Police Commander Ronald Kirui, poor visibility and other factors contributed to the accident, which happened around 5:30 am.

He stated, "We had two fatalities and more than ten were rushed to hospitals. The area is now wet due to rains and we urge drivers to be careful."

Over ten passengers with severe injuries were promptly taken to Kikuyu Hospital for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were transferred to Thogoto hospital mortuary. The damaged vehicles were towed to Kikuyu Police Station.

The Police Commander mentioned that traffic police have initiated investigations to determine the cause of the fatal accident.

He stated, "As of now, we cannot tell what really caused the accident, but our traffic officers have embarked on investigations."

The accident resulted in significant traffic congestion, diverting motorists heading towards Nairobi to alternate routes in Muguga villages before rejoining the highway at Kinoo. The bus, traveling from the Western region to Nairobi, collided with the stationary tanker.

Simon Kimani, a witness to the crash, described hearing breaking sounds and a loud bang, prompting locals to rush to the scene.

He recounted, "We found the bus had rammed into a tanker. Fortunately, the tanker didn't explode." Surviving passengers screamed for help, leading to the prompt arrival of the police.

Road users have been urged to exercise caution, especially during the rainy season, to prevent similar accidents.

This incident adds to a series of accidents in the country, highlighting the ongoing efforts to address road safety concerns.
