Names of the 11 deceased Kenyatta University students revealed

• The late university students' bus was involved in an accident with a tractor-trailer at Maungu, Taita Taveta.

The names of students from Kenyatta University who died on 18th March while travelling to Mombasa for an academic trip have been made public. The 11 were among a group of 58 others heading to Mombasa.

They are; Navile Omondi Opiyo, Beneas Otieno, Hellen Mbula Kisilu, Michael Muteti, Vallary Akinyi Ouma, and Oslo Mwendwa.

Others are; Felix Gori Nyaata, Austine Omondi Owino, Rodger Kiprotich Rono, John Mbiriri Mureithi, and Patricia Murugi Mwangi.

The bodies of the 11 were transported to Kenyatta University Hospital Morgue where they are being preserved awaiting burial processes.

Their families on Thursday attended a post-mortem examination exercise at the KU funeral home where they appealed to the government to help them foot the funeral bills.

The post-mortem examination results revealed that all the victims died as a result of severe head injuries sustained during the accident.

Their bus was involved in an accident with a tractor-trailer at Maungu, Taita Taveta. Some survivors were airlifted to Nairobi and moved to Avenue Hospital for treatment.

VIce Chancellor Paul Wainaina in a Press Statement on the 19th a day after the accident,  confirmed the tragic news and asked for time before releasing more details.

"Sadly, so far reports indicate that there are student fatalities. The University dispatched a team from the Main Campus and Mombasa Campus to the accident scene last night to assess the situation, assist survivors, and provide an accurate report."

Other Kenyan Universities and campuses on Thursday and Friday, March 21st and 22nd respectively, also held separate candle-lighting ceremonies for the departed.
