Police are investigating an incident where a minor aged five died after suspected poisoning by a jiko in Kinyago slums, Nairobi.

The minor’s three siblings were found unconscious and rushed to the hospital where they are recuperating.

Police said the mother of the children had instructed one of them who is aged 21 to light a jiko and prepare their supper.

The woman left the house for shopping at about 7 pm on Tuesday and came back two hours later.

On arrival, she said, she found the children including the 21 year old lying unconscious in the house.

She raised an alarm and the neighbours rushed for her help and rushed the four to the hospital where the five-year-old boy was pronounced dead.

The other children were referred to Mbagathi Hospital where they were admitted.

Police visited the scene and concluded the jiko had caused the suffocation, death and injuries of the children.

An autopsy is planned on the body to further tell how the minor died, police said.
