Tanzania has reversed its decision to suspend flight services between Nairobi and Dar es Salaam, following Kenya's grant of the Fifth Freedom Traffic Right to Air Tanzania Company Limited for all-cargo service.

The all-cargo service is set to take effect from January 16, 2024. In a statement, Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority Director General Hamza Johari announced the withdrawal of the suspension decision made on January 15, 2024.

The approval for Kenya Airways to operate Third and Fourth Freedom Traffic Rights between Nairobi and Dar es Salaam is hereby restored with immediate effect.

The statement reads, "Following this development, the aeronautical authorities of the United Republic of Tanzania hereby withdraw its Decision of 15 January 2024 and, therefore, approval for Kenya Airways to operate Third and Fourth Freedom Traffic Rights between Nairobi and Dar es Salaam is hereby restored with immediate effect."

The initial decision to suspend flights was made after Kenya aeronautical authorities declined Tanzania's request for all-cargo flight operations by Air Tanzania Company Limited.

This move was described as a reciprocal action due to Kenya's refusal of Tanzania's request for all-cargo flight operations by Air Tanzania Company Limited under Fifth Freedom Traffic Rights between Nairobi and Third countries.

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Musalia Mudavadi, along with his Tanzanian counterpart January Makamba, expressed commitment on Monday to resolve the standoff. They pledged to address the issue within three days.
