An accident on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway on Tuesday morning claimed the lives of at least fifteen individuals.
Eight adults and seven children, five of whom were females, were among the victims. The collision comprised a bus and a matatu with fourteen seats.
38 more people, according to the police, survived the collision unharmed. According to police reports, the number of fatalities from various incidents in the last two days has increased to over 20.
The most recent event involved a collision between a North Ways Shuttle Toyota matatu and a bus from Classic Kings of Congo at roughly 2:45 am near the Twin Bridge area.
Authorities verified that every person inside the matatu perished. Ten people on the bus suffered minor injuries, while three passengers suffered serious injuries.
Mau Summit police arrived quickly and helped to move the injured people to Molo Hospital. Chief of Police for the Rift Valley, Tom Odero, announced that an inquiry into the occurrence is being conducted.
“It was yet another tragic morning where we have lost 15 people. Others are injured and are in hospitals,” he said.
To avoid traffic accidents, he urged all drivers to drive with the utmost caution. Two different incidents on Monday resulted in the deaths of four persons.
A matatu and a stalled lorry were involved in one of the accidents that occurred along the Isinya-Kitengela Road, according to the police.
On the Narok-Bomet highway, one more person had passed away alone while two cars were involved. The dead, according to the police, was a matatu driver.
A Mitsubishi Fuso truck and a Transcar Galaxy Sacco Toyota Hiace matatu collided head-on on the Narok-Bomet road in Tegero at around one in the morning. The matatu was travelling to Nairobi.
Over the weekend, three people died in a different incident that happened in Kericho and Nyamira.
