Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has hinted at a plan to launch a new website where the public can access results for national exams.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu said they will scrap the SMS code and instead introduce the website where parents and candidates can check their results free of charge.

Speaking when he appeared before a parliamentary committee Thursday, Machogu regretted that the challenges that were experienced in accessing KCPE results were avoidable and should not happen again.

“Here is a situation where an outsider was given the contract but did not conform to the required standards,” he said.

“It means that moving forward when we release the KCSE results we shall not be able to make use of the same service provider... I am already engaging the ICT to see if we can develop a website,” he added.

The schools’ platforms, he however, noted will continue to work, adding it remains the most reliable.

Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) was forced to apologize for the delays experienced in accessing the 2023 KCPE results.

This is after learners and parents noticed it was not working when they tried accessing their results on Thursday.

They sent a message to those who had tried to access the results.

"Greetings, we apologise for the delay in accessing KCPE 2023 results. We will update you once they are available on 40054," the message read.

Each year after the announcement of the national exam results, parents usually access their children's results through an SMS code or the KNEC website.

For the SMS option, candidates send their index number, followed by the initials KCPE/KCSE (in capital letters) to a code provided to access the results.
