Parents have been reassured by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu that the Ministry does not intend to raise tuition for Form One students starting high school in 2024.

On Monday, Machogu spoke in Kikuyu Town while accompanying President William Ruto to see the start of the KCPE and KPSEA exams.

He declared that secondary school tuition would not change.

"Also to assure Kenyans there is no school fees increment as learners proceed to Form One," the CS said.

Machogu mentioned that the current annual cost of extra county schools and national secondary schools is Sh53,000. While students attending county secondary schools will still need to pay Sh45,000 annually.

"The fees quoted are going to remain as such," Machogu said.

Additionally, the CS stated that high schools all around the nation have enough room for Form One placements.

He claimed that he has confirmations that the exam papers have been sent to every exam location in the nation as the exams get underway.

While about 1,415, 315 candidates are taking the final KCPE exam, 1,282,574 Grade 6 students are taking the KPSEA exam.

The tests will take place from Wednesday, November 1st, for three days.

Parents have also been reassured by National Parents Association Chairman Silas Obuhatsa that there will be no cost hike.

The administration, according to Obuhatsa, has not had any discussions about raising fees.

"This is media propaganda which we as the National Parents Association are not aware of at all. When schools closed, students were sent home with the fee structure that has been in place before C19. This the Kilemi Mwiria taskforce proposed affordable fees for parents," he said.

Obuhatsi said the claims that the government has issued new fee structures should be ignored.

He said that Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association Chairman Indimuli Kahi has just made a suggestion in response to the difficult times facing the nation, not requested that fees be raised starting in January 2024.

"Should the Ministry find his proposal necessary, then it's the school management boards together with parents that will get the best way forward,"Obuhatsi said.
