Safaricom Mpesa code

Kenya's biggest communication firm Safaricom has explained the reason behind its 'RIP' Code. Safaricom says there is nothing it can do about the code as it is computer-generated.

Kenyans had raised concern given the initials RIP are majorly used to wish a dead person to Rest In Peace. TV personality Linda Ogutu had through her X account requested Safaricom to look into the matter.

"Oya @SafaricomPLC @Safaricom_Care Mpesa codes cannot begin wit RIP please....rukeni hiyo buana." She requested

The telecommunications company responded,

"Hello Linda, unfortunately it is automatically generated by the system hence we are not able to change."

The TV host further requested,

"Give the system the phone. We have to agree that we don't want to die please."

On Monday, September 25, a message with the code went viral.

After Linda's tweet Safaricom seems to have done something about it as the code as of Wednesday,27, 2023 is reading 'RIQ'
