Six people from one family have succumbed following a fire incident in the wee hours of Monday morning in Kipkelion West.

The fire incident wiped out a family of six, according to Kipkelion West officer commanding police division Maurice Gunda.

Gunda said the fire incident happened at the Kapkwen location, Kiptenden village in Kipkelion West.

The occupants were burnt beyond recognition during the 2:00 am incident.

Gunda said initial investigations point that the fire could have been ignited by a suspected petrol leak.

The police boss said there was a power saw machine and some jerricans filled with petrol at the scene.

Speaking to the Star in Kericho, Gunda said the six bodies have since been taken to St Vincent hospital mortuary Muhuroni Subcounty in Kisumu.

Gunda declined to give the names of the deceased until their relatives were informed.
