A family from Ndoroto village in Naivasha is mourning the death of their 11-year-old son who took his life in their home in unclear circumstances.
The body of the minor who is a Grade six student at the nearby Ndoroto Primary School was found hanging in one of the rooms by the parents.
Early in the year, a 12-year-old girl hanged herself in her parents’ home in Kayole estate as cases of suicide among youths in the lakeside town continued to rise.
In the latest incident, the body of the minor was discovered on Sunday evening by a relative before police were called in.
According to a village elder, Peterson Kuria, the motive behind the death is still unknown, adding that the boy was in good spirits earlier in the day.
He said that his parents were still trying to come to terms with the incident, adding that the minor was supposed to report to school on Monday morning.
“The parents who returned from church on Sunday afternoon could not locate the boy only for one of the family members to stumble on the body in the store,” he said.
Meanwhile, tension is high in the clash-prone area of Maella after a middle-aged farmer was attacked with crude weapons by a group of herders and left for the dead.
During the incident, a semi-permanent structure was torched as police were dispatched to the area that has in the past recorded bloody clashes between the two communities.
The incident came barely a week after the Naivasha security team held a meeting in the area following death threats to the area Chief over the ownership of the vast Ng’ati farm.
According to former area MCA Mujing’a Kariuki, the injured farmer and a group of women were planting maize when the attack occurred.
He said that some of those involved were well known by area residents adding that the injured man was admitted in Naivasha subcounty hospital in critical condition.
“This attack was well planned and it’s meant to intimidate some members of one community and we are asking police to arrest all those involved,” he said.
